My name is Sharon Mackay. Ever since my wonderful experience as a pregnant woman, I have felt compelled to pass on the benefit of my experience by sharing what I’ve learnt and providing the natural products that I found most useful to other pregnant women, so that you too may make the most of this special time and take care of your body and your unborn child.
On March 30 2008 I gave birth to our first child, a beautiful daughter, whom my husband and I named Erin Petal. I wanted to have a natural birth: I didn’t want to go to a hospital unless there was an emergency; I wanted my husband to be involved in any way I wanted him to; I wanted the benefit of a midwife’s experience but with minimal medical intervention; I wanted to be free of unnatural pain relief to give my daughter the best possible and most natural start in life and I wanted to feel secure in the knowledge that I was in control and was free to make my own choices.
I did feel in control throughout the birth of my child and it was a magical experience (albeit a little painful, similar of course to the emotions of the child as it enters this world and which we shared, together). However I believe the journey for my magical experience began several months before the birth date in the form of the preparation and care I took of myself and the healthy diet I chose to make the birth easier for me and Erin Petal. I used several homeopathic, herbal and aromatherapy products, such as Raspberry leaf tea to prepare my uterine muscles for labour; Arnica for aches and pains; and Stretch Mark Oill for my growing bump (I have no stretchmarks!). I also attended pregnancy yoga classes, as well as an excellent birthing workshop with Andrew and Jerusha Moon who run Athayoga in Falmouth, Cornwall. I truly believe my magical experience was, in the most part, due to the fact that I had allowed my body to prepare for the birth of my child naturally and it is this reason that has led to the birth of Nature’s Mother.
I have recently given birth to our second little girl. This pregnancy was just as special as the last, although I haven't had as much time to think about.I had a wonderful waterbirth at home as I'd hoped, and feel truly blessed. My range has progressed with time, as my daughters have grown and changed and I have added more baby products, such as amber teething necklaces, which I found most helpful.
I feel passionately, that there is a lot more we could be doing for ourselves during our pregnancy that would help reduce the need for medical intervention in the birthing process, hence the products I bring to you. The New Active Birth book helped me to realise, and I am now a firm believer (and living proof) in trusting your instincts as a woman and would love to see more pregnant women feeling more confident in themselves and re-embracing the truth - that our bodies were designed to give birth naturally.
